Answers to General Questions

Is the system secure?
All sections of the UB ePayment web site that require personal or payment information use your browser's encryption capabilities to protect data as it passes between your computer and our server. This is enabled by the 'https' in your browser's address line and is often indicated with a lock icon somewhere on the browser.
All of your transmissions are encrypted using the industry standard 256-bit encryption. The UB ePayment web site maintains a security certificate issued by Verisign, an industry leader in e-security applications.

I need to make a payment at UB, but I don't see an option to make the payment on-line.
Not all UB-related goods and services currently have an on-line payment option. If you do think a particular department or campus organization has added an on-line payment option, you should find the web site of that campus organization and look for a link to UB's ePayment web site. By following a specific departmental link, you can be sure you are making the correct payment and that your payment will be accurately credited to your account.

Why do I need to provide so much information to make a payment?
We use the information you provide on the ePayment form to accurately identify you and make sure you are credited with your payment. While a person number is usually enough to identify a student, we sometimes need additional information such as name or date of birth as additional confirmation. We ask for a phone number as a final way of contacting you if we have a question about the payment you are making.

Do you do anything else with this information?
We use your personal information only to identify you and accurately credit you for your payment. We do not use it to contact you for any type of marketing nor do we provide this information to any external entities.

How do I know which semester to select? (Not for all payments.)
The semester on the form refers to the semester to which you want to apply your payment. Often this will not be the current semester, but some semester in the future. For example, if it is currently the Spring semester and you are paying a housing deposit for next year, you will probably want to apply your payment to the following Fall semester.

All of my information is correct, but the system won't allow me to make a payment. What's wrong?
For certain types of payments we check UB's records to verify that you need to make the payment you are attempting. For example, if you attempt to pay an undergraduate admissions deposit, we verify that you have been admitted to UB.
If you think you should be able to make a payment and the system won't let you, contact the department responsible for the payment you are making and verify that your records are correct and that they expect a payment from you. You can also contact the Student Response Center for more information about your current account status.

Answers to Email Receipt Questions

I requested an email receipt, but I never received one. What happened?
Email receipts may not arrive for a variety of reasons. Some common reasons are:
  • The email address you provided was wrong because of a typo.
  • Your email provider blocks our automated email because they think it is SPAM. This is currently the case with AOL email addresses.
  • There may be other SPAM filters, perhaps in your email client, that have automatically deleted our message before it arrived.
  • You may have set up some sort of challenge/response system on your email account to prevent SPAM.
The solution to these problems is to make sure that you type your email address correctly and provide an email address that will accept our email.

I'm concerned about getting more SPAM. Do you do anything with my email address other than send me a receipt?
No, we use your email address only to deliver your email receipt. If there is a problem with your payment, we may use it to contact you regarding that payment. However, we will first use official University contact information if possible.

If I have set up a challenge-response system for my email, will someone respond so I can get my email receipt?
The email receipt we provide is generated automatically from our system. While someone on our support staff may see the challenge reply from your email system, we cannot guarantee that someone will respond to confirm that the email is legitimate. If you want to receive an email receipt, please provide email address that does not require a manual response.

I forgot to ask for an email when I made my payment. Can I still get an email receipt?
Yes, you can still access your on-line receipt if you have the unique identifier provided with your transaction. To access your receipt, type or copy the following URL into your browser:

https://epay.buffalo.edu/public/rt/payment_results.cgi?unique_id=Transaction Number

Replace the "Transaction Number" with your actual Unique ID. If you don't have this number, contact the department with which you made the payment and ask if they can retrieve your unique identifier for you.
